Rory Schmier

Rory Schmier is a 56-year-old construction professional and ranch manager based in Arboles, Colorado. He was born in Durango and spent his early childhood moving throughout the state with his family. He attended school in Pagosa Springs through fifth grade before relocating to Monte Vista, where he completed high school. These early experiences gave him a strong connection to rural communities, shaping his practical, hands-on approach to work. After high school, Rory began his career as a farmhand for a local family, spending six years learning the fundamentals of agricultural operations. He gained experience in land care, machinery use, and managing seasonal cycles. Seeking new opportunities, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked for a year as a mason. This position introduced him to construction and laid the groundwork for his future in building and remodeling. Rory returned to Colorado and entered the retail sector, co-owning a liquor store in the Alamosa area for five years. This experience gave him valuable knowledge in business operations, customer service, and inventory management. Eventually, he pursued his interest in construction and launched a custom home building and remodeling company. Over the next two decades, he completed high-end residential projects across the San Luis Valley and Durango, earning a reputation for quality artistry and reliable service. In 2012, Rory transitioned into agricultural management, becoming the ranch manager of a 300-acre hay operation near Durango. He now oversees all aspects of hay production, including planting, irrigation, harvesting, and equipment maintenance. He also manages rental properties on the ranch and coordinates hay distribution across the region. In his free time, Rory enjoys motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing, hunting, and camping. He also volunteers by offering handyperson services to elderly residents in his community.
