Alexander Unruh, affectionately called Alex, was born on May 7, 2003, at Lankenau Medical Center in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. His life has been a testament to a commitment to scholarly excellence, athletic prowess, and profound community engagement. Growing up in Bryn Mawr, Alex began his formal education at Gladwyne Elementary School and continued at Welsh Valley Middle School. These foundational years were pivotal in cultivating his academic aptitude and passion for sports, especially baseball and squash. His educational and athletic journey progressed through Harriton High School. It included a significant tenure at Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut, before he returned to Harriton in March 2022 to complete his high school education. During his educational career, Alex Unruh actively participated in various sports, notably playing on the varsity basketball and baseball teams and captaining the squash team. His engagement was not limited to sports; he also contributed significantly to the Ozone Art Club and led the spirit committee. His dedication to squash earned him a national ranking, underscoring his athletic skill and competitive spirit. One of the formative experiences in Alex's athletic journey was a trip to Cuba with his baseball team in eighth grade. This trip was crucial in broadening his understanding of sports within a global context and deepening his appreciation for cultural diversity. At Westminster School, he achieved All-League honors in squash during his first year, further validating his athletic commitment and prowess. Unruh's personal growth was significantly influenced by his time at Camp Kieve in Nobleboro, Maine. The camp, which focuses on outdoor leadership and adventure, played a crucial role in shaping his leadership abilities and fostering a strong connection with nature. Through challenging activities like hiking Mount Washington and canoeing the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Alex developed resilience and team-building skills. Alexander Unruh is furthering his education at Ohio State University, majoring in Sports Industry and minoring in Political Science. This academic path reflects his deep-seated interest in sports and his desire to positively influence the sports industry. His collegiate experience is enhanced by his active involvement in the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, where he achieved full membership in the spring of 2024, highlighting his leadership and dedication to community values. Professionally, Alex has diversified his experience across various roles. He started at UPS, where he gained valuable insights into logistics and operations. He also worked at Zoe’s Kitchen, enhancing his customer service skills, and at Camp Kieve, where he returned as a counselor. Presently, he is employed at the Philadelphia Country Club, where he manages the bag room and occasionally acts as a caddy, further integrating his passion for sports into his professional life. Aside from his academic and professional endeavors, Alex Unruh is an enthusiastic golfer, skier, and weightlifter. He maintains a golf handicap of 6.3, enjoys skiing at Blue Mountain in the Poconos, and stays physically fit with regular weightlifting, illustrating his commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle. Community service is deeply ingrained in Alex’s ethos. He has been involved with Cradles to Crayons and Narberth Food Bank and has participated in various service trips with his church, consistently demonstrating his dedication to improving his community and helping those in need. Alexander Unruh is distinguished by his kindness, adventurous spirit, and dynamic energy.
